Mid North Coast Faces Labour and Skills Shortages: Key Findings
A recent 2024 Skills Audit, commissioned by Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast (RDAMNC) and conducted by Charles Sturt University (CSU), highlights significant labour and skills shortages in the region, posing challenges to economic growth. The audit reveals a lower proportion of working-age individuals, a loss of skilled professionals in sectors like healthcare and construction, and limited access to vocational training. Additionally, issues such as housing affordability, insufficient childcare, and infrastructure gaps are impacting workforce participation and business growth.
The report outlines several key recommendations to address these challenges, including the development of a regional housing strategy, better access to Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), stronger collaboration between employers and training providers, and improved infrastructure.
