Celebrating 25 Years of Exceptional Service

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast proudly celebrates Richard O’Leary’s remarkable 25-year contribution to our organisation and the broader Mid North Coast community. Beginning as Area Consultative Committee treasurer in 2000, Richard has demonstrated extraordinary dedication that has transformed countless lives across the Hastings, Macleay and Nambucca valleys through sustained leadership and innovative community initiatives.

Richard’s most visible legacy is the establishment of the annual Science Challenge in 2000, which has engaged nearly 12,000 children over 25 years, with over 45% pursuing engineering or science careers. His leadership during the 2012 International Year of Cooperatives helped transform Australia’s cooperative landscape, while his agricultural advocacy as a fourth-generation farmer has championed farming communities through NSW Farmers.

“I think that one person can make a difference,” Richard reflects, embodying a service philosophy rooted in his family connection to Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast extends heartfelt gratitude to Richard for his extraordinary dedication and invaluable contributions to our board over the past quarter-century.
