North Coast Employment Strategy Governance Group Meets

The first Governance Group meeting of the North Coast Employment Strategy was held on Thursday and chaired by Mr Pat Conaghan MP,

Member for Cowper, New South Wales.

Representatives from NSW State Government, Commonwealth Government, Regional Development Australia and Business NSW attended the meeting.

The first working group, the Macleay Valley Coast Tourism/Hospitality Group was endorsed and will be led by Marlyn Breen, Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator at Kempsey Shire Council.

“The establishment of the Macleay Valley Coast Hospitality and Tourism Working Group involving representatives from education, industry and government has the ability to really focus on the on-ground issues facing our local tourism sector in Kempsey.”  said Marlyn.

“Tourism is a key industry for our region, and it needs the access to well trained staff who can regain employment and support our local businesses to meet the demand that will come from future increased domestic visitor numbers.”

The initiative is seen as an opportunity to focus on the development of hospitality and tourism training to highlight employment in the sector as a career choice rather than a short-term employment option.

“It is my hope that the challenges our community has suffered recently will be addressed by a new focus on developing a strong workforce for our locals and our future.” said Marlyn.
